Lalla’s birth is estimated to be between 1320 and 1321 in a kashmiri brahmin family. She is believed to have left her matrimonial household at the age of 24, to become a disciple of a spiritual leader, Sed Bouy, who was a Shaivite. As part of her religious education, she travelled a lot , struggled and survived on alms, before becoming a teacher and spiritual leader herself. Lal Ded and her mystic verses continue to have a deep impact on the psyche of Kashmiris.
